So I''ve been fine-tuning Persuasive Pete, turning him into more than just a high-skill gimmick because I can do it. And in tandem I've been reading this Irish Fairy tales book. (Actually one of the stories inspired Pete.) I read this 12 page story today about cursed pudding that jumped out of the pot and danced through town. I read the stories out loud, practicing the accent. This is good because I also get to learn a lot of phraseology and pronunciation. Many of the stories are written as though spoken, so you see a lot of "repate" and "manes" instead of "repeat" and "mean." So I'm trying to decide what level of fairy-related power to make Pete. (Since I don't have CI that's a bit harder.) But from a strictly mundane perspective, here's what I've got. Persuasive Pete Peter Connelly Att. (40 pts) ST 10 DX 12 IQ 12 HT 10 Adv (100 pts.) Eidetic Memory (30) Very Fit (15) Extreme Luck (30) Charisma (5) Rapier Wit (5) Serendipity (15) Skills (14 pts.) Diplomacy 10pts (20pts) = 20 Bard .5 pts (1 pt) +1/Cha = 12 Persuasion 1 (2) = 13 0.5 in Climbing, Stealth, Pistols, Fast Draw, and one other I forget at the moment Disadvantages (-40 pts.) This is still up in the air depending on how I want to do things. The principle disadvantage will be Enemy - the Fairy Folk (-10 to -20) and the rest will be anything from Jinxed, Social Stigma (Irish), Low Pain Threshold, Sense of Duty, and what not. This is the most flexible area currently. Quirks (-5 pts) Now here is where I've really gone to town -Offers the term "Potato Pete" to his friends -Uses the word "Irish" as a superfluous adjective ("Hey carried that sack o potatoes 25 Irish miles before he stopped for a break. True story, that.") -Calling everyone "Michael"(pronounced "Moykel") or "Mary" OR the catch-phrase "Sooner than you can say Jack Robinson we'll (fill in the blank)." -He has a series of alliterate catch-phrases. Examples include "Belt buckles and blunderbusses" "Acorns and altar boys!" and so forth. -Claims the Fairy folk hate him because he's swindled them on several occasions, like the time he sold them a sack of rotten potoatoes, black as lucifer's heart, promising they were pieces of coal then, when spun, turned into diamonds. His Diplomacy powers work thusly: 1) +2 to every reaction roll (because it's at 20) 2) +1 from Charisma 3) When he makes a Bard/Persuasion roll, he gets +3 to a reaction roll (at the cost of only one fatigue because of Very Fit) so 4) When using a Social Skill for a reaction roll, he can count on a good +6 to the roll, which represents two "column shifts" of reaction (ie. good goes to excellent, neutral goes to very good, etc.) now What I'm contemplating is if I want to soup up his advantages in a Fairy power sort of way, or get him the Blessed advantage, or what not. I also might not go for the 10 points in Diplomacy right from the start (as I could easily dump those there late) and spend those points on Winning Smile and Animal Empathy or some such thing. I really want to do the Persuasive Pete cuz I just get going on the voice and it's like I can't stop. I think he'd work well with Colin O'Brien. There might be the concern of "who can do the better voice" but I think it would contribute to game dynamics rather than damage it. Anyway. Should probably do work now. Jared
